Steve Hazlett knows a thing or two about hitting. From 1991-1998, he played professional baseball. Drafted in 1991 by the Minnesota Twins, he went on to play six years with the organization, gaining a reputation as a solid hitter who knows how to “make contact.” In 1994, he led the Southern League in doubles with 36, and finished the season in the top 5 in four hitting categories. Steve also played in the Pittsburgh Pirates, San Diego Padres and Seattle Mariners organizations. He spent the years in Triple-A and two in Double-A. He played in three all-star games as a professional.
Hazlett also had stellar careers in both college and high school, earning honors in both. At the University of Wyoming, he was named to the All-WAC Conference team as a junior. At Otero Junior College, he was named to the all-region team twice, and was named a preseason all-American. At Skyline High School (Longmont, CO), he played on three state champion teams, was named to the All-State team and was named Skyline’s Athlete of the Year.
Steve also knows the value of a great hitting coach. He spent a great deal of his professional career working with coach Dave Legg, who also coached baseball greats Tony Gwynn, Mark Grace and Al Newman. After retiring from baseball, Steve began working with up-and-coming players, including an elite competitive team, the Fort Collins Bombers, who won several state championships and made multiple national championship appearances, finishing as high as fourth in the country. He has also worked with standout softball players at both the high school and collegiate levels.
